MTG visits!

This Friday, Room 6 and 7 are off to the MTG for a visit to the HB earthquake exhibit. This is part of an inquiry we are having about disasters and how people cope and respond to them. There is a teacher there and her name is Gaynor Comley. She will be taking the lessons and guiding us through the MTG. We hope that lots of parents can come too!

Rooms 8 and 10 will be going on Monday 21st March.

Tough kids writing

Ms Bevis was unable to come to Tough kids this year so Room 8 has written some interesting recounts of certain parts of their day....

My favourite part was going on the very slippery slide. I felt nervous because it was very scary, then I slipped down. I went past lots of people when I slid down. I was scared when lots of people were looking as I went past but then I got over it.

- Raawiri Brokken

At Tough Kids we had to climb up the black slip and slide with ropes. Once we had finished that we had to climb through the tyres and over the planks - we were nearly finished.

The tyres were hard to climb through because the holes were huge!

When we went under the 'camou' net, my hair got stuck! All the girls with long hair had the same problem...

- Tayla Hampton

I loved going on the water slide! It was fast and amazing! I want to do it next year. Also it was my favourite obstacle there! I did not like the orange wall because it was crowded there.

- Grace Fookes

My favourite part of the day was when I was running hard out! After that I was covered in sweat from head to toe. When i was standing there and looking down at the muddy ground. When i went down i landed in this muddy water! I kept on running to the spider web-it was really hard to get through it!
 -  Darian Stevens

There I was, standing on the top of the water slide. I have been here before because I went here last year for Tough Kids 2015! So, as I was saying, I was at the top. I could not bring my feet to to jump down the slide. I could see other people catching up. I could hear screaming coming from the stadiums.

- Fletcher Keats

My eyes were not even opening, my tummy was hurting, I was nearly going to fall down. I just wanted to have a cold shower and lie down. It was a big slide. I had to climb up it, people were shouting, "You can do it!" I was nearly going to vomit. I wanted to stop. I could not stop - I wanted to be tough!
I went down the slide and into the water. I was sweating, the sweat ran down my cheeks.

- Akshita Raturi

My favourite part of the day was the spider web because it had string all over the tent that we had to climb over and crawl under. I almost got stuck in the spider web. I was crawling the whole time. It felt all sticky and gooey. When I got out of the tent I stood up and my legs felt all rubbery and soft. I almost fell over when I got out of the tent!

Tough Kids 2016

Mitre 10 MEGA Tough Kids 2016

What a great time the kids, who went to Tough kids last week, had. They had to show lots of grit and give everything a go. It was a great atmosphere with lots of other Hawkes Bay schools there. It is an annual event which raises money for local charities.

Thanks to Mrs Dingle for organising it and all of the other staff and parents who helped out. We're looking forward to 2017 already!

Magical Moment

Room 6 had an exciting learning experience the other Friday. We were busy with our maths learning when Katie quietly whispered, "Look, the butterfly has hatched!" The children gathered around the newly hatched butterfly and watched in awe and respect as the butterfly dried its wings and readied itself for a brand new adventure in the big wide world. It was a magical moment for all involved.
Keep an eye out for some fabulous stories and art work on our walls!

Welcome to 2016 Middle School Blog

Tēnā koutou,

Congratulations on making it this far to view the Middle School Blog! This is where we will share some of the wonderful learning that has happened throughout Rooms 6, 7, 8 and 10.

We aim to update this fortnightly. To the right is a link to great maths websites that can support your child's basic fact learning as well as a couple of literacy sites. Year 4's will remember the fun we had with coding last year, so we have included links to some of those sites as well.

You are very welcome to leave comments on posts so we know we have an audience! You might know of a great website that would support our topic or class learning!

Look forward to hearing from you,

Room 6, 7, 8 & 10
