Despite the windy weather and the slightly cramped conditions, the Middle school had a successful Market Day. They set their tables up, posted their signs and waited for the eager customers that were coming from the Senior school. There was a range of products for sale from noughts and crosses to slippery slime! There was a lot of noise but mostly of excited shoppers and store holders really enjoying the trading.
We will know more in the morning if we made a profit or not - hopefully we made enough products, sold enough at the right price and SOLD OUT!
Thanks to those parents who were able to come and do a bit of shopping to support our businesses.
We were busy all morning getting ready for our Market day on Thursday. We all had to work hard together to make sure we made enough products so that we could make a profit. We had a couple of disasters - when the slime one group was making just didn't stay like slime....we might call it Gloop instead!
The kids are selecting their materials for their Prep businesses. There is always a high sense of excitement and expectation. The children are learning about collaboration so that their product or service is the best that it can be. There are a lotof compromises required as they make their products.
Kia ora koutou whanau and tamariki - welcome parents and kids to yet another exciting term of discovery and learning!
First up this term we are going to be exploring some ideas about....MONEY. MONEY, MONEY!
Don't worry - the theme of this famous song is NOT what we'll be exploring....
We will be using money as a focus in Mathematics as well as in our topic for this term - PrEP.
PrEP stands for the Primary enterprise project. It is a program designed to teach kids important skills around collaboration, cooperation as well as utilising the skills and talents of each group member. Mathematics is a key curriculum focus along with their reading and writing skills.
The kids are organised into a 'business group' where they work together to provide either a product or a service. They work together over 3 weeks to brainstorm, design and make their product or service with 'market day' at the end in order to make a profit!
It is always a very exciting and motivating time for the kids and teachers alike. The first week we spend on sharing books that have a theme around needs and wants....Check out this video of a review of one of the books we'll be using.
