In the past, shopping was very different. There were no supermarkets, you had to go to lots of different shops to get what you needed. Have a look at the pictures to see what Room 7 was buying and selling...

MTG Visits
The Middle School visited the MTG to find out more about a museum,
We wanted to know how things from the past are displayed.
We compared things from the past to today.
We were very curious and observant. Ask your child what they discovered at the MTG
A big thank you to all the parents who came with us. You are awesome!!

Peace run
Today we were visited by a special group of people who are part of an international group promoting peace around the world.
They sang to us, showed us a movie about what they do, they listened to Te Aroha as we sang it.
We learned that, Peace begins with me....

What is the past and how do we know?
Kia ora and welcome to Term two's learning inquiry.
We have started the term by asking 'What is the past and what things from the past are special to us?
Here are some images of special objects that Mrs Makene and some of students brought in. Rooms ten and seven had a good look at them and wrote down some questions about them - do you recognise what they could have been used for?

ANZAC Day
This week the Middle School have been learning about ANZAC day in memory of the fallen soldiers. It has been inspiring to foster student agency, where the children loved the opportunity to choose what activity they wanted to be apart of. The activities included digital technologies, poppy creations, crosses, medallions and baking of Anzac biscuits. There was great excitement, laughter and creative learning from these shared experiences and the children couldn't wait to share their learning with their teachers, peers and whanau! Tino pai tamariki. Here are a few snapshots from Ruma Waru....

Writers Group visits the MTG
A small group of writers went to the MTG and had a look at the ANZAC exhibition. We had a look at the things on display there that were actually used in the war. We made a poppy to commemorate the people who were killed or badly injured.
We did some writing afterwards which we will publish here. Most of us felt very sad for those who were involved.
On ANZAC day you can go to the MTG for free to visit the exhibition.
ANZAC POEM
Silver medals
Poppy petals
Poppy petals bold and red
Sad soldiers with a muddy bed
scared, run, hide, help!
War is terrifying

Reflection - Sophie
Oh my! I did not know about all of this stuff about ANZAC day. Do you know that the women died in the world war 1? They were nurses. That must have been shocking for their relations. I wonder how many people go to war every year...I can't believe that 16 year olds were in the war.
People used to use those cricket bombs and wear a face mask to protect them from the gas.
Lest we forget.
ANZAC poem
Poppies all around, as red as cherry gloss, as gentle as a rose and can never get lost.
The banging and shooting all around the world. The soldiers standing nice and straight and not a muscle moved!
The horses neighing, nurses screaming, running in the mud - definitely not having fun!
On the battlefield we stand - holding our pride.
The war is over.
Crying when people not returning
People saying goodbye

Poppies
Poppies are red
Poppies are special
Poppy petals are the thing that you're looking for
If you see a poppy, take it home and get
a little
happy
Ash, smoke everyone fights - it's time
for a war over by Gallipoli
Poppy's worn and then...
BOOM! CRASH! SMASHIDY SMASH! as
Gallipoli is in danger!
Men march on April 25th
Broken hearts
Nurses everywhere
Lest we forget
We will remember them
Kymani writes...
It was very kind of the men that enrolled for world war one but sad too because some died. Some men died a painful death and painful if they had a family. When some people heard the news that one of their loved ones had died it would have been sad, painful and scary.
War is sad.
I know it was to save the country, but still, why? Why did there have to be war?
Lest we forget

Triathlon 2017
What a great event we had on Wednesday 22nd March! It was our very own triathlon. A big thank you to the PTA for providing the delicious food on offer and to Mr Holloway for designing and organising the event.
It was good to see so many people out and supporting their children and our school at an event that also supports a healthy, balanced lifestyle.
The monies that were raised are going to help us to build our very own bike track so that next year the kids will be able to use the track to bike and run on. The track will also be used throughout the year.
Click here to give your child's feedback! We'd love to know what they thought...
Check out the great photos that were taken by Mrs Pacheco...
