Civil Defence Day

On the last Thursday of term one we had Marcus come and speak to us about how to be safe in the event of a disaster. We sat and listened for a long time and asked great questions at the end.
The most exciting part was when we went outside to see how the Civil defence can maintain internet contact using a very special satellite dish.

We even made it on to their Facebook page!

After that we were involved in lots of different activities to do with keeping safe. We put up tents, there was a soup and milo station along with old fashioned games and dancing!

What a great morning we had. Thanks to the parents who came along and helped us out - it was great!

The Minstrel was in town!

The kids were very respectful listeners

The Minstrel is a very talented performer

Mathew and Ollie were very sincere in their thanks

It was great to see Hiwi the Kiwi back again

Ollie and Mathew gave a great thank you speech

Once again The Minstrel was at Bledisloe School care of our wonderful PTA! There was music and stories as well as lots of STYLE!
The Minstrel travels around New Zealand spreading lots of important messages about keeping our seas healthy and fishing sensibly - thinking of future generations. Some of the kids are going to take up the challenge and write a piece of writing that includes his important messages. There will be an overall winner to be decided by Ms Bevis!

Mrs Lowe - our librarian sharing some new information with us

Room 8 had Mrs Lowe visit us twice last week and she was sharing with us about what non-fiction was about and she taught us that it's like non-stop facts!

She brought in a range of books all from the non-fiction section and talked about how libraries across the world are organised by the 'Dewey decimal' system. She has also designed a treasure hunt for us to use and locate the various books we have in our fantastic library.

She also brought in a bag of different plastic animals and talked about how the library was organised in a similar way -inside  the category of animals there were all sorts of  different animals you can read about.

During our inquiry into disasters we have been listening to and reading a range of non-fiction. We have learned about contents, glossaries and indexes. We have thought about key words and ideas too. We hope you have enjoyed learning new facts and ideas too!

ANGRY BIRDS!

We have been looking at 3D shapes this week and have made some Angry birds and shelters. There is even some skate boarding action! The kids ...
