Swimming

We have had six weeks of swimming and what a wonderful time everyone has had, cooling off in our school pool and developing their water skills at the same time.
Mr Lister, our caretaker posts the temperature every day, which has been really interesting and coincided with our maths focus on Time, at the start of the year. The temperature was never below 20 degrees when we swam and 29 degrees was the hottest it got(more like a warm bath really)!!!
It has been really great to see such a lot of resilience and positivity towards learning to swim and we have seen lots of effort and willingness to give things a go!!! This has resulted in some great improvement.
Although it was too wet for our actual swimming sports day, we all had a lot of fun on our practice days, and it gave the children some experience of how it would look and feel. Here are some photos showing how much fun we had!

WELCOME TO 2 0 1 7

Kia ora whanau and friends! We have had a great start to our year. We welcome Mrs Mary Medcalf and Mrs Rosalie Stevens to the teaching team. We know they will love working with your children this year.

Our big inquiry this term is about "HABITAT". We are using our visit to the rocky shore to get us thinking about what a habitat is and what creatures need to live there. Click on the link below to see a youtube clip...

The Redwoods

The Redwoods

Te Mata Peak
(click on title to follow the link)

Our final trip as well as our BIG DAY OUT was a great success. There was  a lot of resilience required as we made our way up and down the hills, making our way to the shady redwood forest.

We had been told of the legend of Rongokako - the sleeping giant and how Te Mata peak came to be formed.

There was an expedition to to the top by some intrepid trampers who had to all write an application to Mrs Dingle to say why they would like to do it.

For the activities the teachers took different activities. Mrs Pacheco did some drawing, Mr Hodgetts went for a walk and looked at the fossils along the way and Mrs Makene made bridges and shelters.

The weather was perfect and it was nice and cool playing in amongst the trees- we even saw some tuis and piwakawaka.

Thanks again to the parents who took transport and helped witth supervision - we can't do these things without you.

Manaaki whenua, manaaki tangata, haere whakamua
Care for the land, care for people, go forward.

Kiwi Kids Outdoors 2016

Kiwi Kids 2016

Our inquiry this term is about what it means to live in such a wonderful environment and how we are the kaitiaki - guardians of the land.

Our whakatauki is...

Whatungarongaro te tangata toitū te whenua
As man disappears from sight, the land remains

This demonstrates the holistic values of the Maori, and the utmost respect of Papatuanuku, the mother of the earth.

We have already been to Dolbel reserve and had a wonderful time looking at the views. enjoying the bush and of course....CARDBOARD SLIDING!

I Remember poems

Mrs Peggy Gulliver

Today, we had a visit from Mrs Gulliver who used to teach at our school. She talked to us about the importance of enjoying the outdoors but also being careful to look after ourselves by wearing the right gear, telling someone where you are and having good nutritious food with you.

In Room 10 we created the Nogard. Our teacher read out a set of instructions and we drew what we visualized from her instructions. As you can see we ended up with a dragon. A Nogard is dragon written backwards. The focus was on our listening and visualizing skills. We then wrote about our Nogards and here are some of them. Enjoy
